Abstract Hrvatsko zagorje je srce Hrvatske.
Abstract (english) Hrvatsko Zagorje is just the heart of Croatia. Many people think that there is nothing to visit in Zagorje, but they are not even aware that this area offers much more than anyone can imagine. It is one of the most visited destinations in continental tourism in Croatia and a fairytale region rich in historical and cultural heritage. The beauties of the landscape attracted nobles from ancient times, to build their castles, mansions and summer houses here. Numerous Zagorje castles and manors with parks and gardens have been preserved and restored and are today the greatest heritage of the Baroque in Croatia. The most famous, most attractive and most visited baroque castle in Hrvatsko zagorje is undoubtedly the Trakošćan castle. Also, the castle, which according to UNESCO belongs to the highest category of monuments and which attracts tourists with the story and legend of Veronica Desinička is the castle Veliki Tabor on a beautiful hill that leaves visitors an invaluable experience. In Zagorje there are numerous museums and memorial houses of deserving individuals from Croatian history. In this area there is a site from prehistory and antiquity, and the oldest site is Hušnjakov brijeg near Krapina, where Dragutin Gorjanović-Kramberger led an excavation during which the remains of Neanderthals 130,000 years old were found. The former small houses "mazanke" and "zidanke" are today a real rarity that the only open-air museum in our country, the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec, carefully preserves and shows the life and work of a Zagorje peasant in the past. Also, many remember the most famous event "Peasant Revolt" from 1573, on the occasion of which in Gornja Stubica there is a special museum and a monumental sculptural composition of one of the greatest Croatian sculptors, originally from Zagorje, Antun Augustinčić. It is important to mention that the inhabitants of Hrvatsko Zagorje speak a specific Kajkavian dialect, which is celebrated and nurtured every year at the Kajkavian Culture Week in Krapina. Folk tradition is rich, and the production of wooden toys, Lepoglava lace and gingerbread and gingerbread products are included in the list of intangible assets of UNESCO. Hrvatsko Zagorje has great potential for the development of cultural tourism, and in addition it has great attention that has been built for many years.
