Abstract Turizam i sport jesu društveno ekonomske pojave čija povezanost seže daleko u prošlost.
Abstract (english) Tourism and sports are socio-economic phenomena whose connection goes far back in time. Sports tourism includes trips aimed at observing or participating in a sporting event. Therefore, a sporting event must be the main reason for travel in order for some type of tourism to be considered sports tourism. Sports tourism includes various users, and they can be top athletes, but also recreational and passive spectators. Also, for destinations where sports tourism takes place, it causes many direct and immediate benefits. Although sports tourism is primarily associated with world-famous sporting events such as the Olympic Games, this form of tourism has developed in Croatia thanks to sports events such as the ATP Croatia Open Umag, Snow Queen Trophy, Zagreb Marathon, but also sports recreation. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit all tourism-related activities hard. Travel bans, the abolition of air travel, the impossibility of crossing the border are some of the reasons why the volume of tourist traffic has significantly decreased. For the same reason, many sports competitions have been postponed, and some have taken virtual form. The aim of this paper is to present the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sports tourism in the Republic of Croatia, and the purpose of this paper is to deepen knowledge about the importance of sports tourism for the Republic of Croatia and to identify postcovid solutions for sports tourism recovery. The paper contains a case study based on secondary data whose topic is the Zagreb Marathon, and on this specific example the changes in the events of sports tourism due to the impact of the pandemic are observed. Primary data were also used, a study was conducted on the impact of COVID-19 on Croatian sports tourism and the results of the research confirmed the negative impact of COVID-19 on sports tourism in the Republic of Croatia, and this is mostly reflected in the answers that sporting events which respondents had previously attended were delayed or canceled altogether.
