European Union projects are funded by European Union's financial supplies. These projects are implemented in order to encourage socio-economic development of a certain area. The area of Kvarner boasts itself with rich cultural and historical heritage, but despite this fact it is clear that current investments are not enough and that the destination's capabilities are not used to its full potential. Tourism still keeps focused mainly on the sun and the sea, which results in increased number of tourists in the peak period. In order to reduce overtourism in the peak season and to increase the number of tourists and overnight accommodations in low season, it is vital to raise awareness of how important is the cultural resource management. One way of attracting more tourists to the destination are definitely cultural projects that revive unique cultural-wealth of Primorsko-Goranska region. More and more tourists hope to experience the authentic and genuine spirit of the destination they visit. The present thesis explores the influence that cultural projects have on the development of cultural tourism and the destination itself. In order for the project to be successful it is necessary that all participants cooperate. The importance of cultural project implementation will be justified by examples of EU projects conducted in Kvarner as well as by empirical research of the attitudes of project leaders and participants. Based on the obtained results, it can be said that the participants are relatively satisfied with the way the cultural projects are implemented. They also agree that European Union funds greatly facilitate the implementation of cultural projects and positively affect the tourist offer of the destination. Respondents are aware that cultural and historical potentials are not sufficiently used, they also believe that they should keep organizing new projects and are largely interested in participating in future projects. In addition to the above benefits, projects raise the level of knowledge and awareness of tourists about the importance of natural and cultural heritage, and also enable tourism workers to educate themselves, which contributes to a better management of the destination.
