Throughout history, culture and tourism have always been closely related, but more recently their codependence has gained even greater importance. In accordance with the modern trends and contemporary needs of society, the term cultural tourism has developed as a specific form of tourism, which is focused on cultural attractions and activities as the main reasons for travel. This specialized type of tourism is taking on ever-increasing dimensions and is most prevalent in the countries that place great emphasis on preserving their own cultural heritage, such as France. One of the most visited tourist destinations in the world is its capital Paris, thanks to the development of cultural tourism. The aim of this final thesis is to point out the importance of the development of cultural tourism, specifically on the example of Paris. Furthermore, it will also be presented how the aforementioned type of tourism, as one of the most popular modern forms of tourism, is significant for the progress and development of the economy of not only this region, but the whole country. The thesis indicates the ways of cultural tourism development in the city of Paris, lists the most visited sites and cultural heritage monuments of this city and describes the process of sustainable development of this kind of tourism in foreseeable future in the capital of the Republic of France.
